Cannabis law in Trinidad and Tobago

Limited access

Trinidad and Tobago has decriminalized the possession of small amounts of cannabis for personal use, but there is currently no active medical cannabis programme. While the Cannabis Control Act, 2022, has been passed to establish a regulatory framework for medicinal cannabis, it is not yet fully operational, meaning patients cannot currently access medicine through a formal system.

  • Possession of up to 30 grams of cannabis is decriminalized for personal use.
  • Adults aged 18 and over may cultivate up to four cannabis plants at home.
  • There is no legal medical cannabis distribution system or pharmacy access at this time.
  • Importing cannabis for personal medical use is prohibited and remains a criminal offense.
  • The Cannabis Control Act, 2022, provides the legal basis for a future medical programme, but it is not yet active.
