Official Program

Minnesota's Medical Cannabis Program is administered by the Minnesota Department of Health, Office of Medical Cannabis. A pharmacist determines a recommended daily dosage and certifies a 90-day supply (up to 450g of dried raw cannabis; a higher amount requires written pharmacist justification — MN Rule 4770.1750). The purchasing limit is a 30-day supply: patients may buy up to a 30-day supply at a time, and the total purchased in any 23-day period must not exceed the 30-day supply.

Key Rules

Possession

Patients may purchase up to a 30-day supply at a time; the total purchased in any 23-day period must not exceed the 30-day supply. The pharmacist certifies a 90-day supply (up to 450g dried raw cannabis; higher requires justification).

Transportation

Medical cannabis must be kept in its original packaging and stored out of reach of the driver during transport.

Employment

Minnesota law does not require employers to accommodate medical cannabis use. Consult your employer's policy and an attorney for your situation.

Travel

Medical cannabis may not be taken across state lines. Doing so violates federal law, even into states with their own programs.

Renewal

The 90-day supply is set by the pharmacist. The 30-day purchasing limit resets on a rolling 23-day basis — each purchase returns to the available balance 23 days after it was made.
