Limited accessFrench Guiana, as an overseas department of France, follows French national regulations. Medical cannabis is currently in a transition phase following the conclusion of a national pilot programme, with a new permanent legislative framework established in late 2023 that is currently being implemented to allow for future authorized medical use.
- The previous national medical cannabis pilot programme ended on December 31, 2024.
- Only patients previously included in the pilot may continue to receive prescriptions under transitional arrangements.
- A new permanent legal framework for medical cannabis was established by the 2024 Social Security Financing Law.
- Full implementation of the new system, including new patient access and product authorization, is currently in progress.
