Official Program

Alabama's medical cannabis program is administered by the Alabama Medical Cannabis Commission (AMCC), created by the Darren Wesley 'Ava' Hall Act (2021). After licensing delays, Alabama's first medical cannabis dispensary opened on June 4, 2026. Patients with a qualifying condition may obtain a certification from a registered physician and register with the AMCC. Only processed products are permitted (tablets, capsules, tinctures, gels, oils, topicals, gummies, lozenges, suppositories) — raw plant material and smokable flower are NOT allowed.
